Topic: Getting Started with Conversation Class



Vocabulary


SKILL

A skill is something a person learns to do and can do well.

 

EXAMPLES:


Driving a car is a skill.





 




Cooking a meal for your family is a skill. 






GOAL

A goal is something you plan to do in the future. It is something to work for.

A personal goal is something you want to do in the future.


EXAMPLES:




Lily is learning to read. Her goal is to read a book.









Maya interviews for a job. 

Her goal is to get a job.








Small Group Questions

1.  What did you do during the break?

2.  What classes are you taking at Literacy Source in Spring quarter?

3.  We listen to and speak English in conversation class. Which is easier - listening to or speaking English?

4.  Name 2 personal goals you have for Conversation Class. For example, I want to learn new words.

5.  Let’s talk about our class rules. Class rules are important to know. Did you read them on blog?

6.  What do you do if you cannot come to class? When is Free Talk Time?

7.  When you don’t understand your classmate or teacher, what can you say?

8.  Tell us about yourself. How long have you lived in Seattle? What is the name of your neighborhood? What do you like about it?

9. Who do you live with? Tell us about your family and pets.

10. On Thursday, we will get to know our classmates and teachers. Name two things you would like to know about your classmates and teacher.
